About the Tutor
Hi,
My name is YuYan, Huang. I graduated from National University of Singapore, Science Faculty in 2007 with Bachelor of Applied Science. I majored in Food Science and Technology, a specalised department under the Faculty of Science.
This degree has not only taught me the technicalities in the Food Development Process, the chemistry of the components in our everyday food we consume, and also, more importantly, the application techniques of theory to reality through final-year science projects and Industrial Attachment Programme.
Prior to the University programme, I was in Temasek Junior College for 2 years, preparing for A levels. My course of study involves reading Chemistry, Biology, Physics and C Math as my core subjects. I have always loved Science since 15, as I find that the concepts of Science are what we see in our everyday lives. And that for everything you witness, they can be explained and explored.
Yet my appreciation for Arts has never left me when I graduated from my secondary school, CHIJ Convent. My 4 years in the school has nurtured, cultivated the artistic and creative side of me, which allows me to better connect with people as well as integrate my understanding of Science even better.
How it all began:
Tutoring career began after my A levels as like many undergraduates, to supplement income. I have been teaching for 5 years now, and in the process, I found that I am good at building rapport with students, but more importantly, I am able to teach them, make them understand concepts and applications skills better.
My style of teaching has always been an application-based approach, or what I called a ‘Point-and-Shoot’ style. Though I take heart in explaining concepts as detailed as possible, ultimately, answers are catered to specific questions, so as to maximise scoring.
This style is particularly important and useful for students who are weak in the subject and those with a short span of time. ( Once, I have a very weak student who always scored F in JC and came to me 2 months before the A levels. After intensive coaching, she jumped from F to C. That was the best moment for me as I knew she had understood within a short 2 months.)
I have taught many students of all calibers as well as private students. I am proud to say that everyone under my tutelage has scored to their expectations, if not better. Unless the student did not put in the effort to work with me.
Coming for my lessons requires one to have an open yet earnest mind. Hard work is just half the battle won. I can guarantee that at the end of my lessons, you not only emerge with better grades, but also the application skills can bring you far into your life’s future development.
